What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle yet powerful form of healing energy that brings us back into balance physically and emotionally. When we are in greater balance, our system runs better – we sleep and digest better, have better immunity, experience less pain and are more resilient to stress. Reiki is commonly used in to accelerate the healing process. People routinely report feeling calmer and refreshed after a Reiki session.

Is Reiki a form of massage?

No. In a Reiki session, the client is fully clothed. I gently place my hands on the client and leave them in place for anywhere from one minute to ten minutes before moving on to the next placement. My hands are still. It is the flow of healing Reiki that creates the treatment.

How often do I need to come?

Most people notice a difference after the first treatment, and the benefits grow with repeated sessions. If you have never tried Reiki, I suggest you come in for one session to experience it and see how you feel afterward. I find most people benefit from and maintain the results longer from a series of sessions. I often recommend a series of four sessions for people stressed out and/or going through big transitions.

See information on Reiki Sessions and Series.

Does insurance cover Reiki?

Most insurance companies do not yet cover Reiki. Please call your insurance administrator for specific questions about your policy.

Are there any side effects and will Reiki interfere with other forms of Western or complementary and alternative medical treatment?

The consensus in the medical community is that Reiki is safe. There are no contraindications for receiving Reiki and no known side effects. It complements medical treatment. Reiki involves a light still touch. There is no manipulation.

Can anyone learn Reiki?

Just as everyone can benefit from the balancing effects of Reiki, anyone can learn this simple yet powerful form of healing and use it on themselves daily. Many people also give Reiki treatments to their children, loved ones and pets. The ability to use Reiki is transferred to the student by a Reiki master during a class. See Reiki Classes.
